Welcome Dumpster Readers,
I am glad to be back with you again. An old saying was that March will come in like a Lion and will go out like a lamb. Not this year. The first of March brought spring like weather to Scarborough. The beautiful, colorful crocuses, daffodils, tulips are already up and ready to bloom. The trees have budded and the sap is running on the maple trees.
This past week when I opened my bedroom curtain shade I had a big smile, for there on the lawn, in all his awesome grandeur …. a magnificent red robin. I love seeing the first robin, that is a sure sign that spring is here. The birds are back and I am grateful for they are the harbinger of spring.
March is not my favorite month. It what I call the mud season and pot holes growing bigger every day. March does offer some events that I like. It bring us a day when we can wear Green to celebrate St.Patrick’s Day even if we don’t have Irish roots. March in the church is the period of Lent. Leading up to Easter Sunday. It gives me 40 days to do a little self-examination as to how I might be living my life. I think I am letting it totally fly bye too fast. I feel I need to slow the pace down a little. Lent is a good time to it, take some time to relax, spend some quiet time in solitude and peace.
March for basketball fans is the weeks for “March Madness”, when you study and fill out picks in the pool to determine which college team will win the NCAA National Championship. It’s fun but usually by the week-end of the ” Sweet Sixteen” my bracket is done, all my picks have lost. So it gives me time to start my next March activity, and that is to dig out all my financial stuff because the Internal Revenue Service Tax Deadline is less than a month away. Each year I say I’m not waiting until the last day but it always creeps up on me and I am looking for statements that I can find the night before its due.
The great thing that March brings is the start of sping training for Major League Baseball Teams. The boys of summer will be gearing up for another season. For Red Sox fans we will have new hope. The memories of ending up in last place for two years in a row are long forgotten. We no are preparing for feeling that great joy of going from last to first place in 2016. Or at best being ahead of the Yankees. So I can’t wait to hear the Ump call, “Play Ball””.
Lunch Time
I am a bit late getting my thoughts together for this month’s Dumpster because I’m hungry. It’s noon time and I feel I want an Amato’s sandwich. I love Amato’s Italian Sanswiches. The wonderful array of incredible meats, cheese, and veggies on fresh baked bread gives it that good taste and aroma. Sorry I Have to stop now, It’s lunch time ……………..
I am back, Lunch was good. My prayer of grace over my sandwich was … “Thank You God , for Food, It was truly one of your very good ideas ! Amen ” For Ellen it is not the food that makes eating great. It is the love of eating out. The joy is dining in a fine restaurant. The quiet candle-light atmosphere while perusing the complete menu of appetizers, salads, entrees, and beverages. Just relaxing and chatting while the accomplished server refills the water glasses and brings a plate of warm chewy bread with sweet-cream butter. Eating is not all about the food, for Ellen is about eating out, She is right.
THE IDES of MARCH
That great writer of the plays on the Avon River wrote: ” Beware the Ides of March ” . Noting that a big change was going to happen soon. For Ellen he was right. March has not been good. Ellen has caught every one of those bad flu and cold germs that was out there. She spent a few days at MMC in order to get her strength and health back, plus adding a new batch of wonder drugs so things have improved. Her energy level is coming back, breathing is much better, starting up her walking routine again, and less napping. So Ellen is feeing a lot better.
Ides of March changes can also be good, real good. My son John and his wife Lanie has given me my seventh grand child. On March 4th Abigail Grace { Abby } was born. She was just right 7.4 pounds and 20 inches long and in good health. She does like to eat and sleep a lot. I had almost forgotten what a natural high a new baby gives you. It’s almost euphoric, it’s hard to explain the joy and the new kind of love a new born brings.
Who Makes You Laugh ?
In the last few Dumpsters I have told you the type of music and singers that I like most. Now I will tell you about the man who through the years made me laugh the most. Jack Benny was my father favorite comedian, I like him a lot, he didn’t have to say a word. He would make facial expressions and use body language It was good humor. Now my favorite, all time the best, I think you will remember him: Red Skelton. He could play many characters all which were unforgettable and his jokes would break you out in happy laughter. Here is a sample of his humor.
